Race and Social Justice in U.S. History Extra Credityou can only earn extra credit ONCE per quarter.  I encourage you to attend multiple, but please realize you can only earn 15 points of extra credit per quarter.

 

1.  Attend the viewing of “Race:  The Power of An Illusion” on Thursday, October 8th at 2:30 in P-14.  The video will last 50 minutes and will be followed by a short discussion.  Extra credit will be awarded for attendance!

 

2.  Read “Is Your Baby Racist” (Newsweek, 9/5/09), and answer the following questions.  You MUST email the answers to me no later than 8 p.m. on 10/19/09.  Points will be awarded on the basis of the quality of your answers (do your answers show that you completed and understood the reading?).

            a.  Why are some parents reluctant to discuss race with their children? (5 points)

            b.  Why is it important to talk about race with children? (5 points)

            c.  What could be the effect of race discussion on friendship building among children? (5 points)

 

A.P.
