U.S. Government

Current Event Presentations

One easy way to understand U.S. Government is to see its workings in our daily life. Everyday, real examples of government workings occur. Each Friday 4 students from class will present their current event. Expect to present twice during the semester. Current events will only be accepted ONE DAY late, and will be deducted 20% for being late. To ensure there is no overlap, current events will fall into one of the following categories.

  1. Domestic Policy (national level Congress, President, Supreme Court)
  2. Foreign Policy (national level)
  3. California State Politics
  4. Local Politics (Davis, Yolo County)

For your current event you must:

  1. Clip the article. (attach to the back of the write up page)
  2. Have a short paragraph write up.
    1. Summarize the article
    2. Why is the topic important?
    3. Any significant outcomes?
    4. Discuss the specific part of your textbook to which this article relates. If it is an article about Congress, find the part in the textbook which relates to the power of Congress you are discussing.
  3. Image (on the write up page) the image must ADD to the article. It could be a political cartoon, or an image of the problem. You will not get credit for pictures of people.
  4. You need two copies of this one for me, and one for you to refer to during your short presentation.
